Politics & Values

Politics & Values (P&V) is a living and learning community composed of around 30 freshmen and is based on the Mount Vernon Campus.

Over the course of a year, P&V members study questions including:

  • What is the proper relationship between the individual and society?
  • Is the state the proper arena for enforcing values?
  • Are there any shared values that can be enforced internationally?

P&V courses are writing-intensive, seminar-based, and taught exclusively from primary sources, with no exams, textbooks, or large lectures.

In addition to classroom studies, P&V students participate in activities including film screenings, career seminars, and special trips to DC-area destinations.
